[1] Its name is from a compound of the Quechua words qucha "lake" and pampa, "open plain. It lies in the densely populated, fertile Cochabamba Basin, at 8,432 feet (2,570 metres) above sea level. Most of the 16,400 (2005 estimate) Bolivians in Bergamo are from Cochabamba which includes both legal and work visa-expired immigrants.
